I had the pleasure of visiting Honl’s Beach during my trip to Kona and it was one of the highlights of my vacation.
Honl’s Beach is named after George Honl, a local fisherman who caught octopus and squid on Honl’s Beach. He built a little beach hut in the early 1900s for fishing trips.
The waves are pretty strong, which makes swimming and snorkelling hard and sometimes dangerous. However, the strong waves bring out boarders and surfers, which is a lot of fun to watch.
This is a wonderful little beach that is perfect for lounging around on the sand while taking in the sun and the scenery.
A modest park with a shoreline composed of lava rock and sand. When the waves are good, the location is popular with surfers.
location
Honl’s Beach is located in the town of Kailua-Kona on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.
This part of Big Island beach is close to town, which makes it a great place to take pictures of Big Island sunsets.
During our visit, there were only a handful of other people lounging on the sand, surfing, or sunbathing. Dad and kid went surfing together.
– Arrive early to secure a parking spot, as the beach can get busy on weekends and holidays. – Bring your own snorkeling gear or rent it from a nearby shop.
